THE ARTISTIC IDEA
Ercole’s Music was founded by trombonist and composer Ercole Nisini, who also serves as its artistic director.
For many years, Nisini has worked at the intersection of historically informed performance, composition, improvisation and contemporary musical expression.
His intensive engagement with Renaissance and Baroque music, historical instruments and original sources provides a distinctive foundation for developing new musical concepts.
At the same time, Ercole’s Music looks beyond historical boundaries.
Different periods, instruments, musical languages and production techniques can enter into dialogue and give rise to something entirely new.
Depending on the project, Ercole works with selected instrumentalists and singers, ensembles, actors, producers, visual artists and other creative partners.

FROM AN IDEA TO A MUSICAL PRODUCTION
I love the process of turning a first idea into something unique – whether it is a concert programme, a musical production or completely new music.
The starting point can be very different: a quotation in an old book, a historic print, a work of art, a particular piece of architecture, a film or an anniversary. Sometimes it is a place that tells a story. Sometimes a melody, a text or a historical event.
Such impulses lead me into a series of ideas, research and musical experiments. Step by step, a concept emerges, a programme takes shape, and music is created that did not exist before.
What I find particularly exciting is this connection between research, conception and artistic realization. Historical sources can be just as important as the atmosphere of a place, a story, a particular audience or the vision of an organiser.
My musical starting point is the music of the Renaissance and Baroque. I am fascinated by its diversity, its direct expressive power and its ability to speak to us even 400 or 500 years later.
Old melodies and polyphonies, texts and subjects that once inspired composers can still move us today and accompany us through very different situations in life.
At the same time, I am interested in the connection with the present: the encounter between historical music and new compositions, improvisation, other musical languages and contemporary forms of presentation.
In this way, historical material can give rise to new musical contexts – leading all the way to entirely newly composed music.
Ercoles Music understands this process as an open artistic development: from the first idea through research and conception to composition, rehearsal, production and performance.
A project may be created for a particular place, a special occasion, a festival, an institution, a company or a very specific audience.
It can take the form of a concert, a new composition, a recording, an audiovisual production or a combination of different formats.
Many of my previous projects have been documented on CDs, in videos and through publications. They show different ways in which an idea can develop into a concrete musical project.
And every new starting point can lead to something entirely its own.
An idea. A place. A story.
